An open letter to tradeswomen:
Dear women in male dominated industries,
It is no secret that the world of trades, especially in certain industries, is still largely dominated by men. Despite the progress that has been made in terms of gender equality, women continue to face unique challenges and obstacles in these male-dominated spaces. And if you are a woman juggling a high-powered career in a male-dominated industry with the responsibilities of raising a family, then you are carrying a mountain on your shoulders that was never meant to be there.
The saying goes, The mountain you have been carrying, you were only supposed to climb. As women in male-dominated careers, you are constantly faced with the uphill battle of proving your worth and capabilities in a space that may not always be supportive or welcoming. The pressure to perform at the same level, if not better, than your male counterparts can be exhausting and overwhelming. Add to that the responsibilities of caring for a family and it can feel like you are carrying an even heavier load than those around you.
Balancing a demanding career with family responsibilities is no easy feat. Women in male-dominated industries often find themselves having to work twice as hard to be taken seriously and respected in their fields. They may have to constantly prove their worth, deal with biases and stereotypes, and navigate a work culture that may not always be inclusive or supportive of women. And all the while, they are also expected to fulfill their duties as mothers, wives, and caregivers.
But despite the challenges and obstacles, women in male-dominated careers continue to persevere and succeed. They climb the mountain, not because they were meant to carry it, but because they are strong, resilient, and determined. They break barriers, shatter glass ceilings, and pave the way for future generations of women in the workforce.
So to all the women in male-dominated industries who are also balancing the responsibilities of family life, remember that you are capable, you are worthy, and you are deserving of success. Keep climbing that mountain, but don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Surround yourself with a supportive network of friends, family, and colleagues who understand and appreciate the challenges you face. And most importantly, don't forget to take care of yourself and prioritize your well-being.
The mountain you have been carrying, you were only supposed to climb. Put that mountain down And climb it , with grace, strength, and determination.
Keep pushing forward, keep breaking barriers, and keep shining bright in a world that may not always see your worth. You are more than capable of reaching the summit and achieving your dreams, both in your career and in your personal life.
Keep climbing, keep growing, and never doubt the incredible strength and resilience that lies within you.
With love and support,
The Bricklady
